Before he was even a teenager, Anthony ‘DJ Touchtone’ Stevenson already had the world in the palm of his hands. It was during his youth when he discovered his true passion,music.While his mother cooked and entertained family & friends in their home, Stevenson used her component set to entertain their company. His love for the turntables was especially remarkable considering that the Philadelphia native was born blind.
“I was always the kid in the background playing records fromher collection,” said Stevenson,who counts DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri and Biz Markie among his influences. “I got my method oforganization from managing her collection. When I started collecting records for myself.
“I mayhave put Braille labels on only about five percent of the records and eventually just put them allin my own order.” In music industry circles, DJ Touchtone is dubbed ‘The World’s #1 Blind DJ’. For more than two decades he has become the standard for professionalism, talent and skill on the turntables.
Touch builds flavorful sets that consistently move the crowd.“I once had a record exec ask do I do tricks,” he recalled. “The trick is that I’m blind. Some ofthese guys can do backflips over the turntables or scratch behind their backs and that’s cute, but ultimately I do this with my eyes closed all day.”
