DJ Jazzy Jeff talks Representing Philadelphia’s ‘Sonic ID’ for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is coming to Philadelphia to enhance the celebration of America’s 150th birthday! The ‘Sonic ID’ will be the on-air identity for the tournament. Each Host City had the opportunity to customize their sonic ID with a local producer to reflect the culture and sounds of the city.
Who other than DJ Jazzy Jeff can curate the Sound of Philadelphia for the City Sonic ID?
The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff sits down with DNA to explain the magnitude of this opportunity, what the process was like, and what sounds we can expect from his curated ‘Sound of Philadelphia.
“The World Cup coming to Philadelphia is huge.. so to be tapped to do the sonic ID for Philadelphia, I really wanted this to sound like the city.” Jazzy Jeff explained. “I wanted it to have some of that Gamble & Huff… some of that Neo-Soul roots that we have… I want to make sure that when the world comes to Philadelphia for the World Cup, that we do it right!”
Jazzy Jeff also spoke on his fellow partner in crime , “The Fresh Price” Will Smith and his street renaming happening this year..
When asked what his favorite memory was recording the show, Jazzy Jeff spoke on the pilot, explains that was the moment he knew The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was going to be a real TV Show.
“I remember when he went out to shoot the pilot… I remember saying ‘wait a minute… this is a REAL TV show” Jazzy Jeff said jokingly. “That moment will always go down in history for me of ‘This is actually happening’”
